We Need Support, Too
While this is often a difficult path to navigate, it
is not one you need travel alone. Support is as critical for us as it
is for our children. Connecting with other families who have a gender
variant child can diminish feelings of isolation, validate some of the
feelings we may be experiencing, and aid in the knowledge that we are
not alone.
While we only want what’s best for our child, we
are aware of society’s intolerance for gender variance. We want
to minimize hardships for them as they mature and raise them to be confident,
holistic, and empowered adults. Because there
is so little understanding of gender variance in children, it
is important for parents to connect with other families, as well as with
professionals who are in the forefront of the field.
